Following is just a sampling of the many programs and events taking place at the City of Palm Beach Gardens Recreation Department:

UPCOMING EVENTS

The Gardens Trailblazer 5k.

THE GARDENS TRAILBLAZER 5K

Date: Saturday, January 11
Time: 7am
Location: The Gardens North County District Park, 5101 117th Court North

Keep your resolutions and blaze into the new year at this family fun 5k designed for runners and walkers alike. You will want to make this your first race of 2020 with an exciting finisher medal and a dri-fit shirt for all! This event is set up perfectly for you to walk or run into the New Year while enjoying the beautiful views of The Gardens North County District Park! Participants will partially run or walk on paved surfaces as well as two miles on the unpaved scenic nature trail. After the 5k, we invite you and your family to Public Safety Day from 10am - 1pm. This event will include live demonstrations and activities hosted by City of Palm Beach Gardens Police and Fire Departments.
Chip timing will be provided by Southern Timing with LIVE timing, preliminary results kiosks, finisher certificates and an individual finisher video for you to download and share!

Celebrate the 18th season of The Gardens GreenMarket by enjoying the best cakes in Palm Beach Gardens, courtesy of the GreenMarket vendors. Our anniversary ceremony will begin with complimentary samples of the traditional vendors 'quilt cake'. Patrons will also receive a GreenMarket reusable shopping bag for their market goods, while supplies last. Face painting, a rock wall, and a one day painting workshop* (*see Adult classes & Programs section for more info) will be featured on this day.

Put some soul into your Saturday night and let The Motowners take you on a musical journey back in time with the sounds of Motown! This incredible tribute band brings the sounds of downtown with songs from artists including: The Temptations, The Four Tops, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Smokey Robinson, Sam Cooke, Wilson Pickett, Stevie Wonder, and many more timeless tunes from the 60's and 70's. Limited seating is provided, so you may want to bring your own lawn chair. Refreshments will also be available for purchase.

We are welcoming vendors with products or services related to the health and wellness field. Showcase your specialty to people looking to improve their lifestyles!

$100 + tax: 10' x 10'  booth space
$125 + tax: 10' x 10' booth space with one 8' table and 2 chairs

If you are a craft vendor who wants to be a part of The Gardens GreenMarket tradition, your handmade work must be juried. Ahoy mates! Join us for a "TERRIFIC" time as we search for treasure! Dive into all the fun with different pirate crafts, interactive games and story time. TOTALLY 2'S & 3'S

Totally 2's & 3's is a fun and engaging way for parents and tots to socialize. Each class is based on a story and craft while teaching participants letter and number recognition, fine motor skills, social skills and movement. R/NR Fee: $48/$60

AMAZING TOTS FOR 18MOS - 2YRS

Start introducing your child to healthy activities with this fun and engaging Tots program. This program uses sports to as a catalyst for cognitive development, and helps to rapidly develop motor skills by using obstacle course adventures and nutritional components.
Monthly sessions begin Thursday, January 9 from 9am – 9:30am at Burns Road Community Center.

AMAZING ATHLETES

This program is a great introduction to sports for your child. It is a non-competitive environment that will help your child become familiar with a variety of sports and the health benefits that go along with it. Classes are held Tuesdays beginning January 7 from 1 - 1:45pm at Burns Road Community Center for youth ages 3 – 6. Monthly R/NR Fees: $65/$85. Register Here!

ADULT CLASSES & PROGRAMS

NEW! THE MAGIC OF PAINTING OUTDOORS- EN PLEIN AIR

Sunday, January 12 | 9am -  Noon
The Gardens GreenMarket, 10500 N. Military Trail

Learn to create strong, vibrant paintings while in and around the surrounding beauty of Palm Beach Gardens in this custom designed workshop for all levels and mediums. Painting outdoors is no more difficult than being in a studio. There will be many demonstrations and individual instruction from internationally celebrated artist and teacher, Hugh O'Neill. No experience needed, no bulky equipment necessary and no walking any distance. The recommended supply list will be available at registration.Topics taught include: What to paint, powerful color mixing, brushwork, how to finish and much more! Click here to register in advance.

NEW! BASIC CHINESE

Students will be introduced to the standard Mandarin Chinese language and will focus on learning essential vocabulary, practicing pronunciation, and understanding simple grammatical structures. Learn to effectively communicate in Mandarin on a limited range of topics related to everyday situations. In-class activities and course assignments aim to assist students as they develop the oral proficiency and confidence necessary to initiate simple conversations. Classes held Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30am - 11:00am at the Lakeside Center, 10410 N. Military Trail. Click here to register!

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR TRAINING
(AGES 16 & UP)

January 2 - 5 | 9am - 6pm

This Water Safety Instructor course is a blended course which requires a combination of online learning and in person skills. You will learn how to teach the American Red Cross swimming and water safety programs (Parent and Child, Learn-to-Swim and Water Safety). Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. An additional fee of $37 is payable to the American Red Cross prior to the start of class. Register online or in person.

Prerequisites:

  • Complete the mandatory sections American Red Cross web-based preliminary course prior to the first day of class (information will be provided)
  • Pass a skill screening to include stroke proficiency in front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and basic butterfly stroke mechanics.
  • Be at least 16 years old by the last day of class (no exceptions).
