Geared to the more advanced artist. I found the finishing touches on a few of these to be a bit vague or even non existent. In some cases it was a matter of looking at the completed example and trying to match it up. Overall though it was fun and suitable for budding artist with above average talent. (Which does not include me!). I did enjoy what I learned though and was pleased with the drawings I was able to complete without too much trouble.

My rating of "Draw 50 Outer Space" is 4 out of 5 stars.

Working with students, it's always a surprise what interests them, or not. Last month, I placed Draw 50 Outer Space on our art table in the library. The art table (with various drawing instruments -ie pencils, markers, crayons) invites students to peruse the book there and perhaps contribute to our rotating art work display board. This one didn't interest my 190+ students as much as the fairies book did. Here's what I was given from two artists(you can see the artwork at https://quiltingreadersgarden.blogspo... ):

Drawn by first grader, AS.
"Why did you use pencil?", I asked him. "Space doesn't have color" was the reply. Hmmm.
"Tell my about your squiggly lines over your planet". "That's space," he said.

Drawn by 7th grader, CG.
"Would you check out this book?" I asked. "Maybe, if I need a drawing for a science project."

I received this book (published by Watson-Guptill Publications) from Blogging for Books for this review.

This "Draw 50," is definitely more complex than some of the other ones I have seen. It still breaks things down into easier steps, but some of the drawings are quite detailed by the last step and in my opinion, there wasn't enough breakdown in certain cases. If this is a learn to draw book, then one should not necessarily expect that everyone who picks it up is going to be as advanced as the artist who created the tutorial drawings and I felt some of them made quite a large leap from beginning stages to finished drawing.

Still, this book is fun and original and most of the drawings in it look like they would be manageable for those who have limited artistic practise. I liked the way the art looked in the finished stages and was impressed by length of the book. This would be fun for anyone interested in space and also interested in drawing.

I'd buy this book for friends or family that wanted to learn to draw better.

This review is based on a complementary copy from the publisher, provided through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Space, the final frontier. But getting there is a technological marvel. For those of us who never get to be astronauts, its fun to dream, and to draw our adventures in the great expanse. Draw 50 Outer Space is a great teaching book for the technical look of space. So many draw space books focus on aliens stars and other planets, but in this one you will find various astronauts, shuttles, satellites, and tools. A short book, but a great class.

A lot more intermediate level rather than a beginner's level compared to other 'Draw 50...' guide books. Still original and the final drawing was realistic.

I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley. Thank you!!

I started art journaling classes and was looking for ways to improve my doodling and drawing skills. Though this book offers a great guide, it may be a bit too advanced for me at this point.
